Ria Alexandrou (b.1990) is a visual artist based in Cyprus, active in the fields of visual installations, textile art, painting, and artistic curation in interdisciplinary projects. She graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts (2009-2014) and was a co-founder of the art group ‘Panic Soup’ (2015-2016), which focused on creating visual interventions in the urban landscape of Limassol. In 2017, she established and continues to curate the project space ‘UpperTapper,’ which hosts exhibitions, workshops, presentations, and performances, with a focus on the local art scene and its exposure to a wider audience. From 2024 she co-founded the artist-run space and collective YΓΡΑΣΙΑ. She has held three solo exhibitions—‘time.mis.placed’ (2016), ‘Soft Spot’ (2022), and ‘Ephemeral Symbiosis’ (2024)—and has participated in group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad. Her practice unfolds through various mediums, such as textile art, painting, and installations that reexamine the concept of memory and the erosion of time. She particularly focuses on transforming seemingly everyday objects, like carpets, into sensory experiences and outdoor interventions that highlight the fragile boundary between the created and the natural landscape. Her latest work seeks to integrate the past and the future through textile art, creating transitional spaces that invite the viewer to redefine their perceptions of time, place, and matter.
